Raw Review: The Doors MA18+

Rrr… 4/5

“There are things know and things unknown and in between are the doors”

The_Doors

If you are not familiar with the band The Doors we are not going to burn you at stake but I urge you to get familiar with their music and listen to the the legendary vocals of Jim Morrison’s pronto.

Jim Morrison was a hard act to follow as he was completely hypnotising lead man of a band on the rise and such a unique individual. I must give a massive shout out to Val Kilmer‘s performance as he brilliantly portrayed the tragically beautiful life of Jim. This movie follows the rapid success of The Doors through the mid 60’s as they made waves releasing their first EPs such as “The End” one of Morrison’s many songs that included dramatic recitations.

The movie takes you on a journey of The Doors becoming hugely successful and Morrison becomes increasingly infatuated with his own image as “The Lizard King”. You see how Jim sinks deeper into an alcoholic haze were he begins having several affairs, particularly mystical sexual encounters with Patricia Kennealy, a rock journalist involved in witchcraft.

Megan Ryan nails the innocent love interest character especially when you see her start to unravel at the hands of Jim’s sins and increased detachment from reality.

The Actual Jim Morrison – Artist Interpretation

You will begin to see my appreciation for a decently made/ cast biography obviously not talking about the latest Steve Jobs movie and this is one of them. This movie is the closet we will ever get to the powerful mind of Jim Morrison and the life he lead moments before he passed at the young age of 27 (read into the 27 club here).

Jim Morrison Quote

One of the best Jim Morrison quotes – In my opinion that is.
